Program Overview

Hands-on Electronics introduces students to the physics and engineering of active electrical systems. Instead of reading about electricity on screens, children plug real physical components-resistors, capacitors, transistors, and LEDs-into solderless breadboards. They learn to decipher schematic diagrams, calculate circuit safety, and trouble-shoot hardware bugs. This curriculum bridges science textbooks with mechanical logic, cultivating deep physical intuition.

Month 1

Circuits & Current Flow

  • Introduction to breadboards, voltage sources, and wire routing
  • Understanding open circuits, closed circuits, and short circuits
  • Ohm's Law: How resistance controls current and prevents LED blowouts
  • Wiring components in series vs parallel and measuring outputs
  • Testing conductors, insulators, and constructing manual switches

Active Component Wiring

  • Using potentiometers as variable resistors to adjust circuit outputs
  • Capacitors: Storing energy, charging cycles, and creating delay circuits
  • Transistors: Wiring switches, current amplifications, and logic gate configurations
  • Integrating buzzers and sound generators to construct tone indicators
  • Reading physical component codes (resistor color bands, capacitor capacities)

Sensors & Real-World Devices

  • Integrating Light Dependent Resistors (LDRs) for ambient light sensing
  • Building moisture and level sensors using water conductivity
  • Troubleshooting faulty circuit pathways using battery checks
  • Combining sensors, switches, and transistors to automate mechanical behaviors
  • Designing final custom circuit schematics on prototype sheets

A smart circuit that automatically detects room darkness using a photoresistor and switches on a secondary high-power LED.

A secure perimeter system that triggers a high-pitched buzzer when an active laser beam aiming at a sensor is crossed.

A practical warning device utilizing metal probes to light up progressive LEDs and sound alarms as liquid reaches critical levels.
